Vocational training for prisoners coming to Jackson facility

JACKSON, MI - Prisoners in Jackson who are serious about turning their lives around and want to re-enter society with certified job skills will soon have their shot.

Highlighting the success of the Vocational Village created a year ago at the Richard A. Handlon Correctional Facility in Ionia, a second village is scheduled to open at Jackson's Parnall Correctional Facility this summer, said Michigan Department of Corrections Public Information Officer Chris Gautz.

The program, available to up to 200 qualifying prisoners less than two years away from being paroled or released, offers certified training in the skilled trades of welding, CNC machining, automotive technology, carpentry, electrical and plumbing.
