What To Expect?

Be yourself and have a sense of humour. The things that the Academy will teach you are the very basics of the profession you are now entering. Never be afraid to ask questions. I always tell the Rookies that get assigned to me the same thing. I always tell them that I would rather have them ask me questions all day long and get it right rather than not ask and mess up. Your instructors in the Academy are there to help you. They want you to succeed and graduate. Your learning really begins when you enter the Prison/Jail after you graduate. I am still learning new skills after 9 years. |

I just recently got appointed to NY State Corrections. I just turned 30 years old. I am a big guy, but very active. I played semi pro football this past year. I started the applying process back in April and seven months later finally got the call to report to the Acadamy. I have tried talking to the investigation unit on what to expect but they are very vague. I would love to hear some stories. |
