Description: | JOB SUMMARY: The Arizona Department of Corrections aggressively seeks applicants for the position of Warden. The Department has custody of more than 40,000 offenders in 10 prison complexes across the state. Each complex is administered by a Warden and supported by Deputy Wardens that administer the individual complex prison units. The prison complexes are located in one of two regions, with each Warden directly reporting to their respective Regional Operations Director. Prison complexes house offenders of various custody levels, from minimum to maximum. JOB DUTIES: - Ensures the safety and security of employees and inmates and compliance with all Arizona Department of Corrections policies and procedures - Administers assigned budget allocations and maintaining the physical plant - Responds to inmate grievances, appeals, etc. - Develops and proposes program changes - Coordinates, plans, develops and implements policies and procedures for adult institutions - Prepares comprehensive reports and recommendations regarding security and/or inmate programming - Develops and proposes policy changes regarding security issues - Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment SPECIAL SELECTION FACTOR(S) – THE FOLLOWING ARE REQUIRED: Requires possession of, and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12). KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Knowledge of: - State and federal laws and regulations relating to Corrections, department policies and institutional directives and personnel rules - Arizona Criminal Code - Criminal and civil court hearing procedures - Correctional management including: security, personnel, maintenance, warehousing, food service and fiscal areas - Human Resources - Principles and practices of supervision Skill in: - Written and verbal communications - Interpersonal relations - Administrative, managerial, leadership and supervisory techniques - Planning, organization and time management Ability to: - Work in a prison environment - Adhere to all Departmental rules, regulation, policies and procedures - Evaluate effectiveness of correctional programs and divisional operations based on objective data SELECTIVE PREFERENCE(S) - IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS: - A proven, verifiable correctional background and at least ten years of progressively responsible correctional leadership experience; and - A bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice/Corrections, Public Administration or Behavioral Science PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation and drug test*.
