An inmate at the Monterey County Jail has tested positive for tuberculosis, according to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office.
The man, whose name and age weren’t released, is being monitored by the Monterey County Department of Public Health, said John Thornburg, public information officer with the sheriff’s office, on Tuesday.
He was tested upon being booked and the test revealed last week that he had a mild case, Thornburg said.
So far, the only places he’s been since being incarcerated are the jail and parts of the courthouse not accessible to the public. The sheriff's office alerted people in those locations to the potential exposure and advised them to get tested, Thornburg said.
